Motorola’s comeback to the high-end phone market happened last year with its Edge Plus. It was followed by Edge which was more affordable. Now, the company has announced a new phone which will fall in between these two smartphones. The 2021 Edge will have 8GB of RAM, with up to 256GB of internal storage.

In terms of the processor, it will have a Snapdragon 778G processor. The Edge Plus had a Snapdragon 856 processor. The new Edge will have a 6.8-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate. In the earlier models, it was restricted to 90Hz. The improved refresh rate will make the phone more responsive even with the mid-range processor.

The camera of the new Edge has also changed. It will have a primary 108-megapixel sensor that employs pixel-binning technology to perform well in low-light situations. It also has an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera with a lens that has a 119-degree field of view. Added to the camera module is a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera features a 32-megapixel shooter which also employs pixel binning technology.

Connectivity in the 2021 Edge is enhanced with various options for global LTE and sub-6GHz bands. It also includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC connectivity along with C-band support. The 5,000mAh battery will provide two days of uptime as claimed by the company. The phone will run on Android 11 along with the company’s My UX skin. Motorola will release two platform updates and two years of bi-monthly security patches to support the phone.

The 2021 Edge will not have an option for wireless charging and is only certified IP52 in terms of waterproof capacity. The phone will be available for pre-order from August 23rd and will come at a $200 discount for a limited time. From September 2nd, the phone will be available for general sale.
