Microsoft is working on unifying its OneNote and OneNote for Windows 10 app. The single OneNote app will include a visual refresh and “key existing features currently unique to OneNote for Windows 10.” Microsoft is including all the features present in its UWP OneNote for Windows 10 app to the OneNote desktop app.

The features will come in a series of updates planned for the next twelve months in the OneNote desktop app which will be installed as part of Microsoft Office. The features which will be added to the desktop app from OneNote for Windows 10 are not yet revealed but the software maker says that all the popular features will make their way to the single OneNote app.

The users of OneNote for Windows 10 will have to upgrade to the full desktop OneNote app by 2022. OneNote explains that the improvements in Windows will make it able to unify the two apps resulting in the simplicity of a single app on Windows. The UWP version of OneNote for Windows 10 will not be immediately removed. It will reach the end of support by October 2025 anyways.

The updates won’t affect OneNote apps for macOS, iOS, Android, or the web. The changes are simple Microsoft’s efforts for unifying the best of UWP and desktop versions of OneNote apps.
