The users of Microsoft Office on Chromebooks will have to look for new ways to continue using the Microsoft apps. Microsoft has confirmed that it will stop the support of the Office app for Android on Chrome OS. The app will be removed from Google Play Store on September 18th. After this, users will have to sign in via Office.com or Outlook.com on the web. 9to5Google reports that even after the removal from Chrome OS, it will be still available on Android phones.

Access through the web is rather easy, but the step to remove the app will provide quite a downgraded experience for Chromebook users. This experience will not meet the expectations it had set on its native Google-controlled platform Google’s G Suite. The web app is likely to have no offline access. Offline access was provided in the Google Play Store Version.

The reason for taking down the app from Play Store is still unclear. The plan to do so, was revealed by the company to About Chromebooks. The company stated that it is to improve the experience for Chrome OS/Chromebook users. This plan will make more Chromebook users try their hands on the G Suite. They also have the option to drop Chromebooks and then download the Android app on Windows 11.
