After months of anticipation, Meta has officially introduced its latest smart glasses developed in collaboration with popular eyewear brand Oakley. These new glasses offer significant improvements over the previous Meta Ray-Ban models, including double the battery life and the ability to record 3K video. The design is inspired by Oakley’s HSTN (pronounced “How-stuhn”) frame and is targeted at both sports enthusiasts and general users.
Launch and Pricing
The special edition Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, featuring gold accents, will be available for pre-order starting July 11, priced at $499 (approx. ₹41,000). Other variants in the collection will start at $399 and are expected to hit the market later this summer. Meta has confirmed that the glasses will eventually be available in India, along with Mexico and the UAE.
Features and Capabilities
These smart glasses are equipped with a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and built-in microphones. Users can stream music, capture photos, record videos, and make or receive calls—completely hands-free.
They are also integrated with Meta AI, enabling voice commands like “Hey Meta, take a video” or “Hey Meta, what’s the wind speed today?” The AI can also describe surroundings and translate languages in real-time.
Battery and Design
Battery life is another major highlight. With regular usage, the glasses can last up to 8 hours, and up to 19 hours on standby. Fast charging is supported, delivering 50% battery in just 20 minutes. The included charging case provides an additional 48 hours of usage on the go.
Available in six frame and lens combinations—including black with polar lenses, brown smoke with water-ready lenses, and clear frames with grey lenses—the glasses also support prescription lenses at an additional cost. Some versions come with Oakley’s Prizm Lens technology, enhancing visual clarity in various lighting conditions—ideal for outdoor activities.
Availability and Future Plans
The Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses will first launch in countries like the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, and France, before expanding to India later this year. This launch is part of Meta’s ongoing partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company behind Oakley, Ray-Ban, and other renowned eyewear labels.
According to company figures, more than 2 million pairs of Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses have been sold globally so far. With the new Oakley collaboration, Meta aims to build on that momentum and offer a fresh wearable experience that merges style, utility, and cutting-edge technology.
