Lexus is set to make a powerful impact in Austin, Texas on June 8 with the introduction of two large SUVs: the 2024 Lexus GX and the all-new 2024 Lexus TX, a family-oriented 3-row vehicle. Ahead of their full unveilings, Lexus has released additional teasers that provide the clearest glimpses yet of these two trucks.
While previous teasers only showed partial views of the GX, the latest images reveal the vehicle in its entirety, albeit partially obscured by mud and splashes of water. These images confirm what was surmised from earlier teasers—the GX has undergone a long-awaited transformation, boasting a more aggressive and muscular design that complements its off-road capabilities.
One of the most controversial design elements of the GX, the spindle grille inspired by Toyota’s automatic loom business, has been toned down. It is still present but now better integrated into the front end, with black outlines instead of chrome, at least on the shown trim level. Heritage cues pay homage to the legendary Land Cruiser Prado, the vehicle on which the GX is based. These include a bold hood with raised edges reminiscent of the J90 generation and a distinctive gusset cut on the D-pillar, carried over from the LC Prado. Additionally, the large upright mirrors draw inspiration from the beloved FJ Cruiser.
The teaser for the Lexus TX is less revealing but provides a glimpse of the headlight pattern that will greet drivers as they leave the country club. Previous teasers showcased the rear side view and elegant three-row interior. Notably, the TX breaks away from the traditional L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs) seen on previous Lexus models—the shape remains, but it is now inverted. The spindle grille of the TX features a defined contour rather than a brightwork border, resembling that of the all-electric RZ.
While the design of the TX may not be the cleanest, it is expected to be highly sought after. Positioned as a true 3-row SUV based on the Grand Highlander and filling the gap between the RX-L and LX, it is likely to be a popular choice among buyers. However, a final judgment on its design will be reserved until it is seen in person.
