iOS 18 promises to add more excitement to the iPhone experience. In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reveals that AI-generated emojis will be one of the new features Apple plans to unveil at WWDC next month. While the current emoji library is already extensive, Gurman notes that Apple “is developing software that can create custom emojis on the fly, based on what users are texting.” I’m eager to see the unique creations this feature will produce.

Apple is also expected to enhance customization options for iPhone users, allowing more flexibility with app icons and home screen layouts. Users might soon be able to change app icon colors and organize their screens more freely, moving away from the traditional grid layout. This would be a significant shift for Apple, providing users with more creative control over their home screens. However, it’s important to remember that these features are still rumors and may not be finalized.

There has been considerable speculation about Apple’s AI initiatives leading up to its annual developers conference, starting on June 10. Instead of introducing flashy AI innovations, Gurman suggests Apple will focus on practical applications. The company is expected to announce a partnership with OpenAI and might integrate AI enhancements into Safari searches, Siri, photo retouching, and voice memo transcriptions. Additionally, Apple may introduce smart recaps for notifications, web pages, and more.
