Apple’s “California Streaming” event witnessed the unveiling of a pair of premium Pro flagships. The series was called the “most Pro iPhone ever” by Tim Cook. If compared with the iPhone 12 Pro series, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max feature faster screens, smaller notches, and a new variety of colours.
The most notable addition is a new Super Retina XDR display with 1,000 nits of brightness for improved outdoor reading. The company claims that this is the brightest iPhone screen ever, with a brightness level that is 25% greater than before. The company’s ProMotion is also accessible for the first time on iPhone, bringing variable refresh rates of up to 120Hz to the Pro line. When you’re doing things that benefit from it more, like scrolling or playing games, most phones with high refresh rates use adaptive displays to enhance speeds for smoother scrolling. The refresh rates dip to as low as 10Hz while you’re just gazing at static graphics.
The Pro series, like the normal and small iPhone 13s, has Apple’s new A15 Bionic chipset, which features better graphics and neural processing as well as new video encoders and decoders. Apple also included camera features with the new CPU, such as Cinematic Mode for video capture, which is powered by machine learning for intelligent on-the-fly focusing. The Pro models have a five-core GPU instead of the four-core GPU seen in the ordinary variants.
The Pro’s camera system has also been improved, with new hardware including a new 77mm telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and a new ultrawide configuration with autofocus and a bigger f/1.8 aperture. According to Apple, this will result in a 92 percent improvement in low light. The primary “wide” camera now has an f/1.5 aperture and 1.9-micron pixels, making it the company’s biggest sensor to date.
The iPhone 13 Pro cameras can shoot at up to 6x optical zoom with macro photography capability, thanks to the A15 Bionic chipset’s advanced picture signal processing. Apple’s ProRes for full-resolution editing will also be supported for the first time on the iPhone in this year’s Pro versions.
According to Apple, the iPhone 13 Pro series has “the most pro design” and is available in four hues, including a new Sierra Blue colour. Its front camera system is 20% smaller, and the three sapphire crystal lenses are surrounded by a stainless steel trim at the back. It’s also water and dust resistant to IP68, and the internals has been built like regular iPhones.
The A15 Bionic chip is also expected to improve battery life, with Apple claiming that the iPhone 13 Pro Max would last 2.5 hours longer than the previous model, making it the longest-lasting iPhone ever. When compared to the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 13 Pro is expected to have a 1.5-hour battery life gain. The iPhone 13 Pro features a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen, and both start at $999. Pre-orders begin on Friday, September 17th, and the phones will be available on September 24th.
