Indian technology services leader Infosys announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a strategic partnership with AI startup Anthropic to develop advanced AI-driven enterprise agents, signaling a deeper push into automation as large language models transform the global IT services landscape.

As part of the collaboration, Infosys will embed Anthropic’s Claude models into its Topaz AI platform to build “agentic” systems capable of autonomously managing complex business workflows. These AI agents are expected to serve industries including banking, telecommunications, and manufacturing. The announcement was made during the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi.

The agreement arrives at a time when India’s $280 billion IT outsourcing industry faces mounting concerns over the disruptive potential of generative AI. Recent market volatility followed Anthropic’s release of enterprise AI tools designed to automate functions across legal, marketing, sales, and research domains raising questions about the long-term implications for labor-intensive service models.

Through this partnership, Infosys gains access to Anthropic’s Claude models and related developer tools to create customized AI agents for large-scale enterprise clients. The company confirmed it will also leverage Claude Code to assist with software development tasks such as coding, testing, and debugging. Infosys has already begun internal deployment of these tools to strengthen in-house capabilities before extending them to customers.

The company also shared financial insights into its AI business. During the December quarter, AI-related services generated ₹25 billion (approximately $275 million), accounting for 5.5% of its ₹454.8 billion (around $5 billion) total revenue. Competitor Tata Consultancy Services has previously reported annual AI revenue of about $1.8 billion, representing roughly 6% of its total earnings.

For Anthropic, the partnership provides a pathway into highly regulated enterprise sectors where large-scale AI adoption requires compliance expertise and operational governance. CEO Dario Amodei noted that transitioning from AI demonstrations to real-world deployment in regulated industries demands deep domain knowledge—an area where Infosys brings extensive experience.

Anthropic has also expanded its footprint in India by opening its first local office in Bengaluru. The company identified India as its second-largest market, contributing approximately 6% of global Claude usage, with a significant share linked to software development activities.

Neither company disclosed financial details of the partnership or a timeline for rolling out Claude-powered AI agents.

The move mirrors similar collaborations in the sector. Last year, HCLTech partnered with OpenAI to help enterprises deploy AI technologies at scale, underscoring the growing alignment between Indian IT firms and global AI labs.
