Huawei has introduced two new tablets, the MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) and MatePad Air (2024). The MatePad Pro 12.2 is the flagship model, featuring a 12.2-inch dual-layer OLED display, while the MatePad Air comes with a 12-inch IPS LCD and is available in four vibrant colors.

Despite its name, the MatePad Pro 12.2 is thinner (5.5mm) and lighter (508 grams) compared to the MatePad Air, which measures 5.9mm thick and weighs 555 grams.

A standout feature of the Pro tablet is its display. It boasts dual OLED layers, similar to the new iPad Pro models, enabling it to reach a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. The 12.2-inch screen offers a resolution of 1,840 x 2,800 pixels, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Huawei claims this dual-layer OLED provides three times the longevity and 33% better power efficiency than standard OLED displays.

The MatePad Air features a 12-inch IPS LCD with the same resolution, refresh rate, and aspect ratio as the Pro model, supporting up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness. Both tablets are compatible with Huawei’s M-Pencil stylus for input.

Huawei has not disclosed the chipsets for the new tablets, but it is speculated that the Pro model uses a modified version of the Kirin 9010 from the Pura 70 series. The MatePad Air comes with options for 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage, while the Pro can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Both tablets are equipped with a 13MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide camera on the rear, as well as a 16MP front-facing camera on the Pro and an 8MP front camera on the Air. They run on HarmonyOS 4.2 and feature a 10,100 mAh battery, with 66W charging for the Air and 100W charging for the Pro.

The MatePad Air (2024) is available in Green, Cherry Blossom Pink, Feather Sand White, and Smoky Gray, with a starting price of CNY 2,999 ($420). Sales in China will commence on August 13.
