Google’s latest transparency report has revealed that conforming to India’s new IT rules, the company has taken down almost 154,745 pieces of content in the months of May and June based on complaints from the users.

The report was published in compliance with India’s new IT rules which require companies with more than 5 million users to bring out a periodic report. The report should contain details about the users’ complaints and the actions taken by the company in response. All the major companies like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram have started publishing these reports.

Google confirmed that they had received more than 70,000 complaints in May and June. The report reveals that in May, almost 98.9% of the content reported was taken down due to copyright violations and 1.1% due to trademark violations. In June, copyright violations were the reason for 99.3% of the takedowns. The contents taken down have more than doubled from the numbers in April when the company first published its transparency report. The company has also confirmed that they have introduced automated detection processes to prevent harmful content from appearing on its network.
