According to sources, Google is testing a second foldable Pixel smartphone internally. The device is reported to be under development under the codename “Jumbojack,” which is mentioned in an upcoming version of Android 12 called “Android 12.1.” Following reports of another device named “Passport,” this is the latest foldable codename we’ve heard from Google.

Although nothing is known about Jumbojack’s potential form, sources have revealed a few critical aspects. It appears to have two screens, one of which turns off when the device is folded. That points to a design similar to Samsung’s foldables, which feature a tiny outward screen and a larger interior folding display. However, no information regarding screen sizes or internal specifications has been released.

The Jumbojack codename has been speculated to be a reference to Jack in the Box’s Jumbo Jack cheeseburger, implying that the phone will fold “hamburger style” like a Z Flip rather than “hotdog style” like a Z Fold. That speculation, like the consumables, should be taken with a grain of salt.

Unlike Passport, which was allegedly still on schedule for a late 2021 release as of June, there’s no word on when or even if Jumbojack will be released commercially. It’s possible that it’s merely an internal prototype aimed to aid in the development of foldable features like greater multitasking into Android itself. Regardless, its existence indicates that Google is more serious in foldables than it first looked, as the firm prepares to release the Pixel 6, its first true flagship contender.
