Google is going to bring out its updated Play Store safety section next year. It is said that the new safety section will feature an Android app’s privacy information within the store. This is similar to the nutrition labels of the Apple App Store. In a recent Android Developer blog, Google has given hints on what this new section will be made of.
The safety listing will consist of a summary from the developer of an app about the kind of data collected by the app so you can make the right decision on whether to install the app or not. It will also provide information on whether the app will be suitable for children and families, whether the app follows global security standards, and whether the data collected by the app will be encrypted or not.
Also, from the summary one can find out how the data collected will be used by the app. It also informs you whether your personal information like contact details, email address, financial information, and location will be collected by the app and be used for personalization or other purposes. The feature will also make you aware of whether giving access to your details is necessary for using the app.
Google has not confirmed these features and it is possible that some of these might change. The app developers will have to provide all the necessary information like privacy policy accurately so that these features can be added to the Play Store. We might be able to see this new section on Google Play Store by the first half of next year.
Google has also hinted that it will take out dormant apps which hasn’t been downloaded much from its Play Store. This is done so with a view of improving security on its platform.
