Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic were launched in Galaxy Unpacked event yesterday. It features the new Wear OS which Samsung co-engineered with Google. Both devices feature a 3-in-1 sensor, have sharper screens, and can even calculate the body fat percentage.

The Wear OS on Watch 4 is basically Tizen. There haven’t been many changes from the original Tizen. One thing that has changed is the accessibility of All Apps from the home screen itself. The watch allows horizontal scrolling for accessing widgets and cards like Weather, Exercise, Heart rate, and Stress, and quick settings are placed above the home screen. A Google spokesperson clarified on this similarity with Tizen “bring together the best of Wear OS and Tizen into one unified platform,” even though there will be distinct identities. Different versions of Wear OS will have unique branding too. What we know for sure is now is that Galaxy smartwatches will feature a renamed version of Tizen that has better third-party app support. The smartwatch also features updated versions of Google Maps, Messages, Pay and YouTube Music experiences, and many other new apps. The One UI interface by Samsung will ease the syncing of themes and notifications on your phone and watch.

The Watch 4 Classic will have a rotating bezel to spin through widgets. The mechanical wheel is lighter and will get into each notch with a satisfying click. Other cosmetic updates include sharper 450x 450 displays. Classic has the 42nm and 46nm options now which is almost the same as before. The Classic will have black, silver, and green colour options, while the standard edition will come in black, silver, or pink. Watch 4 Classic weighs 46.5 grams while Watch 4 is lighter than that.

The hardware features a 3-in-1 BioActive sensor. It senses optical heart rate, electrical heart rate, and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). It also allows Body Composition measurement. It gives out readings of body fat percentage through simple steps. It also includes a snoring detection device, accurate sleep-logging, and auto-detection of workouts. Blood oxygen levels will also be measured overnight.

The Watch 4 series runs on 5nm processors. It has 16GB RAM, 20 percent faster CPU, and 10 times speedier GPU which makes the overall performance of the Watch 4 much faster and better. The battery life is expected to be 40 hours. It will also allow 10-hour batter performance on a quick charge of 30 minutes.

The devices are now available for pre-order and will be available for sale from August 27th. Watch 4 will have a price tag starting at $250. These might likely become the best Android smartwatches soon.
