Fujifilm has unveiled the newest member of their GFX camera family. The new GFX 50S II will be available for $3,999 body-only, making it the company’s most affordable medium format camera. That’s still a lot of money to pay for tonality and micro-contrasts seen only on medium format cameras, but it’s a lot less than the $5,999 and $5,499 Fujifilm charges for the GFX 100S and GFX 50S, respectively.
The GFX 50S II has a 51.4-megapixel sensor, which is 1.7 times larger than that of a full-frame camera like the Sony A7 III, as well as five-axis in-body stabilization. Fujifilm claims that the camera can reduce vibration by up to 6.5 stops and weighs little under two pounds. The GFX 50S II, according to Fujifilm, has faster and more accurate autofocus than its predecessor, thanks to the incorporation of the company’s latest X-Processor 4. Because the GFX 50S II uses a contrast-detection system rather than the more current phase-detect approach for autofocus, we’ll have to see how quickly it can acquire a subject in practise.
Fujifilm’s trademark film simulations are included in the GFX 50S II. It also features the pixel shift multi-shot capability, which was introduced in a GFX 100 update at the end of last year. It allows you to merge 16 RAW captures into a 200-megapixel DNG file using the GFX 50S II. The 1.8-inch monochrome display on the top of the camera, which you can glance at to view your current capture settings, is another notable feature. Fujifilm will bundle the GFX 50S II with a new 35-70mm kit lens for $4,499, in addition to selling the camera separately. The GFX 50S II is expected to arrive in the United States in late October, according to Fujifilm.
Fujifilm has also updated its popular X-T30 camera. The updated II model has the same 26.4-megapixel X-Trans sensor as the previous model, but it has more memory for speedier performance and a 1.68-million-dot LCD. It will also have the most recent film simulations and firmware from the company. For Body-only X-T30 II the price is set for $899. The company also added two new f/1.4 primes to its XF lineup. Both the XF23mm R LM WR and XF33mm R LM WR will have weather sealing and the price will be under $1,000. It is expected to come this fall.
