In a surprising move, DJI, the world’s leading drone manufacturer, has hinted at a new venture – electric bikes! This comes amidst potential US restrictions on their drone operations.

A recent teaser on DJI’s Instagram page, titled “Power Your Ride,” announces an official launch on July 3rd. The teaser introduces a new brand called Amflow Bikes and hints at a new electric bike powered by a DJI-designed system called Avinox.

Leaked details suggest the bike will be a high-end electric mountain bike (e-MTB) targeted towards tackling challenging terrain. Images leaked by @Quadro_News, a known DJI insider, appear to be marketing materials for the e-MTB, showcasing its potential for conquering mountain peaks.

Further details emerged from @OsitaLV on a platform formerly known as Twitter. They claim the DJI motor will be a powerful 250W unit, generating 105Nm of torque and offering a 20mph (25 km/h) boost. These specs surpass our current favorite e-MTB, the Specialized Levo SL Expert Carbon.

With an official announcement imminent, the wait for full details is short. This unexpected move from DJI has piqued the interest of e-bike enthusiasts, particularly considering the potential for cutting-edge technology integration.

The leaked information suggests the DJI Avinox system encompasses the entire e-bike powertrain, potentially including the battery and software features. The launch coincides with the Eurobike 2024 show in Frankfurt, Germany, where Amflow Bikes will be exhibiting.

According to the Eurobike exhibitor list, Amflow promises “the next-gen e-MTB experience for all,” featuring “one of the smartest and most powerful e-Drive systems on the market.” Their description highlights a combination of “peak power with lightweight materials, high-end technology with focus on the essential, natural riding feel with seamless connectivity”.

While the DJI-powered technology suggests a potentially high price point, the hope lies in the possibility of this technology eventually trickling down to more affordable e-bike models. After all, while a flying e-bike might remain a dream, a powerful and innovative e-MTB could be just around the corner.
