The ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode, initially rolled out in September, is now available for desktop users on Mac and Windows, providing a natural-sounding voice interaction experience with OpenAI’s chatbot. Announced Thursday, this feature introduces human-like voice capabilities, including emotional expression, voice modulation, and responsive interaction. Currently, it’s accessible exclusively to paid subscribers.

OpenAI shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that Advanced Voice Mode has now expanded to macOS and Windows desktop apps. This update comes amid a trend among AI companies to strengthen desktop AI offerings. On the same day, Anthropic launched its desktop apps for Mac and Windows, and Google is reportedly developing an AI-powered browser tool capable of tasks like booking tickets and making purchases. This new desktop voice mode brings the full potential of voice-enabled AI to the desktop environment, previously limited to iOS and Android apps.

Users can utilize Advanced Voice Mode to verbally prompt ChatGPT for tasks like writing code or collaborating on research or assignments. The feature also allows for two-way conversations to analyze data files and discuss insights.

To enable Advanced Voice Mode, users can tap the waveform icon next to the text field within the ChatGPT app, which activates voice mode. Five new voices—Vale, Spruce, Arbor, Maple, and Sol—are available, each with unique accents, tones, and pitch variations.

The feature is available to ChatGPT Plus and Teams subscribers, although it remains restricted in regions including the EU, UK, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.
