Bird unveiled its first-ever e-bike in June. The business announced at the time that the EV would be available in select cities across North America, Italy, Spain, Germany, and France in 2021. Bird announced on Friday that the Bird Bike will make its debut in San Diego. San Diego State University has teamed with the firm to introduce the e-bike, as well as its Bird Two and Three scooters, to the 280-acre campus. Beginning this month, students and faculty members will be able to ride the bicycle.

The pedal-assist e-bike can go up to 56 miles on a single charge and has a top speed of 15.5 miles per hour. It also includes Bird’s geofencing technology, which allows the bike’s speed to be automatically limited in specified regions. The bikes will be cared for and managed by a network of fleet managers, just like the company’s electric scooters. SDSU students will be able to rent the Bird Bike at a discounted rate, according to the business. Bird has also implemented incentives to encourage responsible parking and safe riding.
