Asus has unveiled what could be the most advanced gaming monitor yet the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W, introduced at Gamescom 2025. This model packs a 26.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) OLED display with an extraordinary 540Hz refresh rate. For players chasing even more speed, the monitor features a dual-mode option, allowing it to reach an unprecedented 720Hz at 1080p resolution.
While Asus may not claim the absolute fastest refresh rate on the market, as some competitors have teased 750Hz TN panels at 1080p. This display clearly sets itself apart. Unlike TN technology, the new OLED panel delivers superior color reproduction, brightness, viewing angles, and overall image quality. The ability to switch between ultra-high refresh rates and higher resolution further strengthens its appeal for both competitive and immersive gaming.
A key highlight is the use of tandem OLED technology, designed to enhance HDR brightness and extend panel lifespan. The glossy finish is aimed at making colors more vivid and blacks deeper, with Asus promising reduced glare even in well-lit rooms.
On the design front, the monitor makes a statement with its sleek silver accents and translucent chassis, standing out in a market dominated by plain black frames. However, some may find its large three-blade stand a bit overwhelming compared to more compact alternatives.
Pricing and availability details are yet to be announced, but given the groundbreaking technology, it’s expected to command a premium price.
Alongside the flagship model, Asus also revealed the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG, a 280Hz panel featuring the same tandem OLED technology. This
version uses HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, unlike the flagship’s cutting-edge DisplayPort 2.1a with 80Gbps bandwidth.
Both monitors come equipped with Asus’ Neo Proximity Sensor, which detects the user’s distance and switches the screen off when not in use, reducing burn-in risk. Asus also provides a three-year burn-in warranty, and with improved protections from both LG Display and Samsung Display’s new OLED panels, concerns over longevity are becoming less significant.
Industry watchers note that Asus isn’t alone in adopting LG’s latest 4th-gen WOLED tandem panel, with other brands and Samsung Display expected to follow, hinting at a new wave of high-performance OLED gaming monitors in the near future.
