Apple Watch 2 said to be up to 40% thinner, unveiling in June

Apple will unveil its second-generation Apple Watch at WWDC in June, and it will be up to 40 percent thinner than the existing model. Brian White of Drexel Hamilton also expects that the iPhone 7 Plus will be the only model with a dual-lens camera system.

The smaller, 4.7-inch iPhone 7 is expected to retain a single-lens camera system instead, White says, which would force those who want the greater camera capabilities to purchase the larger, more expensive model. Both devices are expected to enter production in July.

We’ll have to wait until September for the new iPhones to be announced, but White thinks a new Apple Watch 2 will arrive much sooner. He predicts the device will be unveiled at WWDC in June, and could be 20-40 percent thinner than its predecessor.

White did not mention anything else about Apple’s next wearable, so it’s unclear if it will bring any new features. We can look forward to updated internals, but it’s likely that the vast majority of functionality will remain the same.

White, who previously covered Apple for Topeka Capital Markets, has a somewhat spotty track record when it comes to predicting the Cupertino company’s next move. However, his iPhone 7 Plus prediction echoes that made by reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Either way, we recommend you take these claims with a pinch of salt for now. Although Apple has announced new products at WWDC in the past, it seems more likely that the Apple Watch 2 will be available alongside new iPhones instead. But Apple could surprise us.
