In addition to its capabilities as a smartphone, the Apple iPhone may soon offer a new application for pet tracking within the home. According to a document on Apple’s developer platform, the company has introduced a new framework for developers that enables them to create apps and services utilizing the DockKit. This framework focuses on delivering enhanced “photo and video experiences” on iPhones. To utilize this functionality, developers can utilize the Animal Body Pose API, which can detect and identify various actions of a pet, such as sitting, standing, and posing.

By combining the motorized stand hardware and the DockKit framework, developers will have the ability to create innovative apps and experiences for pet tracking using iPhones. It is worth noting that when paired with an iPhone, the motorized stand is reportedly capable of providing a 360-degree field of view. However, it remains uncertain whether Apple will release first-party hardware and an app specifically designed for pet tracking, or if users will have to rely on third-party apps and services.

There are already numerous motorized stands available for iPhones, and with the upcoming iOS 17 update, Apple is empowering developers to fully utilize these accessories. The iOS 17 update is set to bring a range of new features, including StandBy mode, where an iPhone can function as a digital desk clock while charging. The iOS 17 developer beta is currently available for download on 20 different models, and Apple has confirmed that the iOS 17 public beta will be released by July.
