Apple’s long-anticipated approach to artificial intelligence, referred to as Apple Intelligence, is finally making its debut today. While the full release is still rumored to be delayed until October, developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 are now available, offering an early preview of some Apple Intelligence features to a wider group of testers.

How to Access the New Apple Intelligence Features

Starting today, developers with Apple accounts can update their software and find a new Apple Intelligence option in their settings. Users will need to join a waitlist, but access should be granted within a few hours.

To use the new Apple Intelligence features in the iOS 18.1 developer beta, you must have an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max. For the iPadOS 18.1 preview, an iPad or Mac with an M1 chip or newer is required. Additionally, both your device and Siri’s language must be set to US English to access the Apple Intelligence setting.

Since you will be running potentially unstable or buggy software, it’s advisable to back up your device before installing the developer beta.

Available Apple Intelligence Features

Once access is granted, Apple will send a notification to your device. The current beta includes:

A portion of the redesigned Siri is also available, including:

Features Not Yet Available

Several anticipated features are not included in this release, such as Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration, Cleanup in Photos, and personal context and in-app actions for Siri. These features are expected to arrive in future betas.

The full, general release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia is anticipated later this year, with Apple Intelligence features slated to roll out throughout 2024.
