Apple Music is welcoming the classical music genre into its music streaming service. The company announced that it has acquired a classical music streaming service called Primephonic. It will now add the app’s playlists and services into Apple Music. Apple stated that it will bring about an enhanced classical music experience. The company has also hinted that it will release a standalone app, Apple Music classical app in 2022. Primephonic will close its individual operations and services on September 7th.

Apple said that Primephonics audio content and playlists will initially be integrated into Apple Music. As time passes it will include all the best features of Primephonic to its app. Some of the best features of Primephonic that Apple plans to take up are its browsing and search capabilities, display of classical music data. It has also mentioned adding some new features.

The new app for classical music streaming is intended to show Apple’s sincerity towards classical music fans. The exclusive classical music app will employ the same interface used by Primephonic. Launched only three years ago, Primephonic stated that the new deal will help them in increasing the scale and reach to get new listeners. It also stated that they have some limitations in reaching the majority of the world’s classical music listeners if they stand alone. In order to achieve their goal of reaching to more listeners, it had to partner with some giants in the field that includes all music genres and also take the classical music genre seriously. In Primephonic’s FAQ section, it has mentioned that the existing subscribers will be given a refund. They will also be given codes to avail six months of free access to Apple Music.
