Google is introducing two convenient features initially announced at I/O in May: Call casting and internet sharing. These are the first of the company’s new “Cross-device services” aimed at simplifying transitions between Android devices, as reported by 9to5Google.

Google’s help page explains that Call casting allows users to switch video calls from one device to another within the same Google Account. For instance, a video calling app might let you cast your call to another device, displaying a list of nearby devices available for casting. Currently, this feature is only available for Google Meet; users can access it by selecting the Cast button, which resembles the existing Cast/Chromecast icon.

Internet sharing enables automatic hotspot access sharing across your devices. This feature works with Chromebooks and Android devices signed into your Google Account, provided Bluetooth and device location are enabled. However, it is not compatible with Samsung devices, for which Google recommends using the auto-hotspot feature instead.

The new features are available on Android 11+ running Google Play services version 24.28.34, which is currently in beta. A broader rollout is expected soon.
