Ampere is planning to acquire OnSpecta, an AI startup. OnSpecta’s software helps AI inference workloads in the cloud. More details of the acquisition are not available. The acquisition will also have an “optimized model zoo with object detection, video processing, and recommendation engines”, according to ZDNet.

This is not the first time OnSpecta is collaborating with Ampere. The Deep Learning Software by OnSpecta is used in Ampere-based instances. OnSpecta has its headquarters in Redwood City, Calif, and was founded in 2017.

Ampere developed its Arm-based server chip, Altra processor last year which is utilized in cloud computing and hyperscale data centers. It has also launched the Altra Max 128-core server processor this year. Ampere’s founder and CEO Renee James commented that “The addition of deep learning expertise will enable Ampere to deliver a more robust platform for inference task processing with lower power, higher performance and better predictability than ever”.

Ampere’s processors are common with white-box server makers now. Ampere’s clients include Foxconn Industrial Internet, Gigabyte, and Inspur in addition to Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud, Tencent Cloud, and Equinix.
