A new test done on self-driving trucks ensures that in the field of business, the self-driving vehicles will perform much better in terms of efficiency too. TuSimple is a company that focuses on self-driving technology for heavy vehicles.
In order to compare the efficiency of self-driving trucks with that of human-driven ones, the company recently ran a test. They loaded a truck with watermelons and made a journey from Arizona to Oklahoma. It was initially driven by a human for 60 miles and the rest of the journey was covered entirely with the help of the computer.
It was found out that the truck took 10 hours less than a truck driven by a human take. The self-driving truck completed the trip in 14 hours and 6 minutes. According to estimated data, the time required by a human-driven vehicle is about 24 hours and 6 minutes to cover the same distance. The delivery time can thus be reduced to a large extent if self-driving trucks are employed in delivery. The companies can also restock their products faster and also manufacture goods faster.
This time difference can also be due to certain known facts like humans need rest and laws which prevent drivers from driving for longer than 14 consecutive hours. They will have to take a rest in between. However, the test will pave the way to make self-driving trucks common for business purposes.
